Can We or Our Children have Egg and Milk together?

Breakfast is considered the most important meal that kickstarts the body after long hours of sleep, so what is the best thing to have for our breakfast? The first thing that comes to our mind is a nicely done omelette and a glass of milk. Sounds perfect and super healthy, isn’t it? Two of the best sources of protein are eggs and milk.

Eggs and milk have made a healthy breakfast for most of us. But have you ever heard that this combination could be dangerous and even believed to wreak havoc on your health by many people? Is it the worst food combination? Is it safe to have egg and milk together?

A lousy food combination can be harmful to the human body. So, it is essential to eat the right food at the right time in the proper quantity. Combining foods with the wrong combination can produce indigestion, fermentation and gas formation. One such combination is egg and milk. Eggs are one of the most loved foods, not just for their delicious taste and texture but also for our health since it is rich in protein (both whites/yolk), choline and albumin.

They also contain heart-healthy unsaturated fats and are a great source of essential nutrients, such as vitamin B6, B12 and vitamin D, which are necessary and very good for the body. Eggs are consumed in various forms: poached, boiled, scrambled, fried, even half-boiled or mixed with other vegetables. Some people enjoy eggs alone, while others eat them with meats, milk products, and caffeinated drinks.

On the other hand, milk and milk products have a good balance of protein, fat and carbohydrate and are a significant source of essential nutrients.

Should You Consume Milk with Eggs?

It is noted that some bodybuilders consume four to five raw eggs in milk to build muscles and increase their body’s protein level, but nutritionists say that diet can be harmful to the body. In their raw form, eggs and milk have too much protein that the body cannot even process properly.

The combination of raw eggs with milk has some disadvantages. An egg in its raw form can be less palatable, and it can lead to biotin deficiency, bacterial infections or even food poisoning. In addition, consuming eggs in their raw form with milk leads to high cholesterol levels and increases fat deposits which are bad for the heart.

Uncooked or raw eggs with milk have a risk of producing Salmonella, increasing the risk of food poisoning and further causing severe illness in people. So it’s always better to consume them in their cooked form. When cooked, the proteins in egg and milk can directly be used by the body. So cooked egg and milk can give you a good dose of protein and keep you energized. Moreover, the chances of food poisoning are lesser compared to raw eggs.

If you really want to build a strong body and improve your overall health, consuming cooked egg and pasteurized milk is the best and safest option. Unfortunately, this topic has been under debate, so please consult your doctor for medical advice.

Things to take care

  • Make sure you boil and cook eggs properly before consumption to remove the remnants of a bacteria called Salmonella, which comes from chicken’s intestines.
  • Some individuals can be allergic to the albumin proteins present in egg whites, so make sure that before consumption to avoid allergic reactions such as swelling, diarrhoea, wheezing, vomiting, sneezing, coughing, and rare cases of difficulty in breathing as well.
  • Reduce the consumption of milk and boiled eggs in large amounts as it can be harmful and cause indigestion because of their high amount of protein.
